This license does not stand-alone; it is taken together with a trade exam to allow contracting. It is required by the state licensing board in addition to the Master HVAC Exam.

The Business Law exam is required in order to obtain the Electrical Contractors license. Every Electrical Contractor is required to employ a Master Electrician. So, if you are a self-employed Electrical Contractor without additional employees, you must also pass the Master Electrician exam.
Electricians install, repair and maintain power systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Training to become a journeyman electrician typically takes about 4 years, and involves an apprenticeship and state licensing. In Kentucky, electricians must pass an exam, provide proof of work experience, and log at least 576 hours of classroom training. Additionally, electricians must understand blueprints and electrical codes.
The MASTER ELECTRICIAN license is needed to supervise direct or take responsible charge of any Electrician who is engaged in the construction, alteration, or repair of any electrical wiring used for the purpose of furnishing heat, light or power. The Master may also conduct electrical work himself.
This license allows the holder to install, maintain, alter, remodel, and repair heating systems, ventilation systems, hydronic systems, burner service, or cooling systems. Must be employed under the supervision of a Master HVAC Contractor.

This license allows license holders to contract and engage in the practice of HVAC. This license does not allow any hands-on work. License holders must either have or employ someone who holds a Journeyman HVAC Mechanic License in order for the business
The state licensing board requires all applicants for the Master HVAC license to take the Business and Law Exam in addition to the trade exam.
